Door County, Wisconsin is a beautiful and fun place to go on vacation. My Mom, Brother and I go consistently every other summer and enjoy it each time. The area itself is made up of a series of little towns, each with their own individual personality and draw. My personal favorite is Fish Creek but you really can't go wrong. Anyway, after visiting for a week this summer, here is a list of all my favorite restaurants and attractions in Door County.
FOOD: The Wild Tomato – Check out my blog post about this place (it is my all-time favorite. My mom and I literally dream about this pizza and salad. Blue Horse Café – Neighborhood coffee shop in Fish Creek. Highly recommend the Chai Tea Latte. Chef’s Hat – Great lunch spot in Ephraim. Really fresh food and cute outdoor patio. The lunch special comes with a slice of pie which is obviously a major win. J.J’s La Puerta – This place is perfect for a late night Mexican dinner and drinks in sister bay. Julie’s – Must-go spot for lunch or breakfast. They have a super versatile menu and it is pretty healthy and accommodating for dietary restrictions. LURE – This place is pretty upscale and really yummy. The food was outstanding and they have a very wide range of fish options. Definitely try the spicy ginger teriyaki; I could literally eat the sauce on a piece of cardboard and be happy. White Gull Inn – This place has been around Door County for ages and is always a go-to brunch spot for my family and I. They always have a daily coffee cake which is huge and super tasty to start off your meal. The wait is always super long but the food and atmosphere are totally worth it. Wilsons – Although the actual lunch food is just fast-food type options, it is definitely a treat and super fun. To be honest, it is probably a better idea to skip the food completely and just get what they’re known for, Ice cream! Fred and Fuzzys – The food is nothing super special but it is really tasty and super enjoyable to sit outside on the beach and watch the sunset. Carroll House – Classic breakfast stop that is sure to satisfy. I recommend the stuffed cherry French toast. Taco Cerveza – The tacos are a Little pricey for a la carte in my opinion but it is a really fun atmosphere and the fish taco was one of the best I have ever had so it’s worth every penny. Donny's Glidden Lodge– This is always our last meal in Door County. It is really classy and old-timey which I love. They have a salad and soup bar that is complimentary with your meal and all the options are cooked perfectly. Not to mention it feels far from town and kind of in the forest with a beautiful view of the water which makes the meal even more special. ACTIVITIES: Northern Sky Theatre – The shows here are so funny and light-hearted and being out in the park at night makes it even more fun. Sunset Sailboat – We always take the Edith Becker with Sail Door County. The view is jaw-dropping every time and the crew is so friendly and tells a great story about the vessel. Cave Point Hiking – The trail is really easy but beautiful none the less. The water is so clear and blue it is definitely a must-see. Bike Through Peninsula State Park – The ride is not very difficult and the views are gorgeous. The park is really beautiful to see and the trail takes you to the beach and to see one of Door County’s historic lighthouses. Mini Golf – Our favorite spot is Pirates Cove. It is super family friendly and a fun competition for all ages. Shop – There are great boutiques all over Fish Creek and Sister Bay The Hardy Art Gallery – This small gallery showcases a lot of Door County’s local artists and the building itself is very unique and fun. Edgewood Orchard Galleries – This outdoor art gallery is really unique and displays beautiful outdoor pieces in equally as beautiful landscaping. Seaquist Orchard – There are tons of artisan treats at this local farm shop. You can find anything from cherry salsa, cherry soda, sausage, cheese and fudge! We always leave here with plenty of goodies.
